Description

Strelitzia nicolai, commonly known as the wild banana or giant white bird of paradise, is used as an ornamental plant in tropical parks and gardens. A potted plant with heavenly flowers.

The Mecklenburg residential town of Neustrelitz (Germany) has a truly royal symbol with the Strelitzia reginae = Queen's Strelitzia. The Strelitzia came to London and the Royal Gardens at Kew in the 18th century. Its director Joseph Banks named the colorful treasure, previously unknown in Europe, in 1773 after Strelitz, the home of the English Queen Charlotte, who was a princess from the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.

With the naming based on her hometown of Strelitz, Joseph Banks expressed his respect for the queen, who was very interested and knowledgeable in botany. In 1818, Queen Charlotte gave her ducal family in Mecklenburg-Strelitz a Strelitzia tree as a gift. A Strelitzia bloomed for the first time in Germany in 1822 in Neustrelitz in the princely orangery in the palace gardens. The Strelitzia has been the town flower of Neustrelitz since 1995.

Strelitzias (Strelitzia reginae) are currently also very popular as houseplants. Many people know the bird of paradise flowers as a souvenir from the Canary Islands. Our rental offer involves so-called tree Strelitzias as potted plants (Strelitzia nicolai).

We offer strelitzias as rental plants from 80cm to 300cm, the very large strelitzias start at 120 euros for rent at the weekend rate.
